Rome: New Provincials Complete Their Formation Course

02 Jul 2018

(ANS – Rome) – Nine recently appointed provincials from all over the Salesian world gathered in Rome in mid-June for a formation session to reflect upon their experiences after about a year of exercising their mandate.

The course, June 10-23, was coordinated by Fr. Francesco Cereda, vicar of the Rector Major, and organized by Fr. Saimy Ezhanikatt. The provincials, from five regions and five continents, included Fr. Tim Zak, who took office in March 2017.

The course, as usual, took place concurrently with a plenary session of the general council, to allow the new provincials to interact with the councilors and discuss issues both in groups and individually with all the leaders of the Congregation worldwide.

Among the main topics discussed in the joint sessions were the consignment of the six-year guidelines and indications for provincial animation and government; the presentation of fundamental juridical elements, as well as of the current reality of the Congregation in the various regions; and suggestions for the care of religious life and religious discipline among the communities entrusted to them.

Among the events that completed the formation course, there was also a day of spiritual retreat, Saturday, June 16, and visits to the Vatican (June 19), to Don Bosco’s places at Sacred Heart (June 20), and to the Salesian Pontifical University (June 22).

The course ended on Saturday, June 23, with a moment for all the participants to share their experiences of the course with the Rector Major and his council.
